LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The Augsburg men's cross country team finished as the top MIAC team out of eight that participated in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Jim Drews Invitational on Saturday. Four of the Auggies top five runners set personal-best times on the day as the Auggies beat five teams ranked in the central region on their way to a 12th place finish.
Leading the way was
Brent Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn.), who cut 10 seconds off his personal-best time, as he set a school record 25:05.6 over the 8,000-meter course. Haglund broke his own school record that he set in 2008 at the Eau Claire Invitational on Oct. 3 with a time of 25:15.27.
The next finisher for the Auggies was
Victor Sanchez (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS), who finished 66th overall in a time of 26:14.2.
The next three runners for Augsburg all set personal-best times.
Ben Rodriguez (SO, Buffalo, Minn.), finished just behind Sanchez, shattering his previous best by 30 seconds, with a 26:16.3 clocking.
Matt Schafer (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) also cut nearly 30 seconds off his time, posting a time of 26:44.9. Finishing just behind Schafer was
Shane Wyborny (SR, Detroit Lakes, Minn.), who recorded a personal-best of 26:46.2.
Rounding out the top seven for Augsburg was
Jason Chrudimsky (SR, Antigo, Wis.) and
Joe Arnold (SO, Grand Rapids, Minn.), who finished in 28:20.4 and 28:28.4 respectively.
The Auggies are off next week and will return to action on Saturday (10/31) at the MIAC Championships held at the Como Park Golf Course.
