BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's soccer team ended its season on a high note, posting a 2-0 win over visiting Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

An unassisted goal off a free kick by Whitney Holman (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) early in the second period gave the Auggies the momentum they needed.

A late goal by Kelsey Sorensen (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS), assisted by Courtney Gamrath (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) sealed the win for the Auggies.

"It's been a tough season but it feels good to go out on a high note. We played well tonight and found some of our best soccer of the year in the second half," commented Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre.

For the game, Augsburg outshot Gustavus 13-5 and held a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Auggies also claimed a 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

"I'm very proud of the seniors and their accomplishments. They are a special group of women who will go on to do extraordinary things. It's been an honor to coach them," said Navarre.

Augsburg finishes its season with a 6-7-5 overall record (3-6-2 MIAC) and finished eighth in the MIAC standings with 11 points.

"Although our season is over I feel like tonight was a bit of a beginning," commented Navarre. "Overall it's a young team and we will take this season as an opportunity to grow and develop our program so that we are stronger and more prepared for next year."
