Auggies run to fourth-place finish at MIAC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's cross country team claimed its highest-ever team finish, posting a fourth-place finish at the MIAC Championships on Saturday at the Como Park Golf Course. The Auggies finished with 97 points, just behind St. Thomas with 82, St. Olaf with 66 and MIAC Champion Hamline with 61 team points.

Augsburg had three runners earn all-conference honors during the course of the afternoon. Leading the way was Brent Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn.), who recorded a ninth-place finish with a time of 26:16.8, earning his second consecutive all-conference honor. Next for the Auggies was Ben Rodriguez (SO, Buffalo, Minn.), who ran a solid race, finishing 11th with a time of 26:26.9, moving up 39 places from his finish a season-ago. Veteran Shane Wyborny (SR, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) also made huge improvements finishing 17th, with a time of 26:52.5, earning all-conference honorable mention honors, improving 43 places from a season ago.

Newcomer Matt Schafer (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS), just missed out on all-conference honorable mention honors with a 27th place finish in his MIAC debut. Schafer recorded a time of 27:06.6 in the competitive field. Rounding out the top-five for Augsburg was Victor Sanchez (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS), who finished 33rd with a time of 27:22.4.

The Auggies will be off next weekend as they prepare for the NCAA Central Regional meet on Saturday Nov. 14 at Grinell College.
