MINNEAPOLIS -- Andrew Kappers (JR, Lakeville, Minn.) scored a goal and had an assist, as the University of St. Thomas scored a 3-0 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Andy Singerhouse (FY, Hudson, Wis./Hill-Murray HS) scored in the first period, while Tom O'Donnell (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) scored in the second period for St. Thomas (3-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 MIAC). Kappers had an empty-net goal in the closing seconds of the game.
Nate Pellegrino (FY, Woodlyn, Pa./Lawrence Central HS) had 25 saves in goal for Augsburg (2-3-0 overall, 0-1-0 MIAC), which was outshot by a 28-24 margin. Joe Schraeder (SR, East Stroudsberg, Pa./Berkshire HS) had 24 saves in goal for St. Thomas.
St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 13-4 margin in the first period, but Augsburg responded by outshooting the Tommies the rest of the way, 20-15.
Nick Guran (SO, McHenry, Ill./McHenry East HS) had six shots on goal for the Auggies, while
Joel Sauer (JR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) had four shots.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (11/13) at 7 p.m. at the St. Thomas Academy Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
