MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring five of its six goals in special-team situations, the Lake Forest College women's hockey team scored a 6-1 victory over host Augsburg College in a nonconference women's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Lake Forest (4-0-1 overall) outshot Augsburg (0-3-0 overall) by a 58-16 margin, including a 26-2 advantage in the third period, where it scored three goals to pull away for the win. The Foresters scored on four of their 10 power-play opportunities, while also adding a shorthanded goal in the game.
Augsburg's lone goal came from
Sara Toft (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS), who scored the first goal of the season for the Auggies on a rebound, with an assist going to
Jessica Larkin (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS).
Goalie
Toni Menth (SR, Buffalo, Minn.) collected 52 saves for the Auggies.
Kali Holst (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) led the Auggies with four shots on goal in the game.
Lynn Switaj (JR, Avon Lake, Ohio) had two goals and an assist for the Foresters, while Melissa Kravich (JR, Wilmette, Ill.) had a goal and two assists. Courtney Bean (SR, Peoria, Ill.), Sam Herron (JR, Clinton Township, Mich.) and Mira Trebilcock (SO, South Porcupine, Ontario) also scored for the Foresters, with Kim Herring (SO, Dover, N.H.) had two assists.
The teams complete the nonconference series on Sunday (11/15) at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
