Haglund qualifies for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- Augsburg's Brent Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn.) qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships it was announced today by the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee as they announced the team and individual qualifiers for this year's Championships.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals must qualify in their respective NCAA regions. Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large. Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.

Haglund qualified for his second consecutive NCAA championships by virtue of his fifth-place finish at the NCAA Central Region meet. Haglund's time of 25:11.3, was more than a minute faster then his time at the the MIAC Championships and just six seconds shy of his school record 25:05.6. The fifth place finish marked Haglund's second consecutive all-region honor and was a one place improvement from his sixth-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Central Regional meet.

The 2009 NCAA Division III National Championships will be held at Baldwin-Wallace College, November 21, at Highland Hills Golf Course in Highland Hills, Ohio. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time followed by the men's race at noon Eastern time.
