Auggies top UWRF 84-75

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- Behind a 20-point effort by David Olson (SR, Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS), the Augsburg College men's basketball team won the title at the Crown College Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic, topping the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 84-75 on Saturday evening.

Ben Flavin (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) scored 18 points, Jon Cassens (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) scored 12 points with six rebounds and four assists, and Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SO, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) had eight points and 12 rebounds for Augsburg (2-0 overall).

Wisconsin-River Falls (1-1 overall) was led by Jontae Koonkaew, who scored 21 points with five rebounds and five assists. Wade Guerin scored 17 points with nine rebounds, and Spencer Shelman scored 14 points.

Augsburg rallied from a 36-31 halftime deficit, outscoring the Falcons by a 53-39 margin in the second half. The Auggies shot 63.0 percent (17-of-27) from the field in the second half, en route to a 54.7-percent (29-of-53) shooting effort in the game.

A 13-4 run, including seven points from Cassens, gave the Auggies a 50-47 lead with 12:59 left to play, and a later 11-0 run, with nine points coming from Flavin, gave the Auggies their biggest lead of the game, 76-61 with 4:12 left.

Augsburg travels to face Northwestern-Roseville in a nonconference game on Saturday (11/28) at 7:30 p.m.
