ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA PROGRAM

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College linebacker Adam Mead (JR, St. Francis, Minn.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District football squad, it was announced on Thursday.

Mead, a health fitness major with a 3.66 grade-point average, was named to the second team as a linebacker for the award, sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mead leads the Auggies with 90 tackles (43 solo), including a team-best 9.0 tackles for loss. He also has a sack, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles, a blocked kick and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

He is the lone player in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to average double-digit figures per-game in tackles, averaging 11.2 tackles per-game in overall play and 11.2 tackles per-game in conference games-only. His tackle average currently ranks 22nd in the latest NCAA Division III national statistics.

In his three seasons at Augsburg, Mead has 205 tackles (89 solo), including 16 tackles for loss (76 yards) and four sacks (37 yards).

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the district team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials.

College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams. First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members.

Augsburg, now 4-4 overall and 3-3 in MIAC play, hosts St. John's at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis this Saturday (11/7) at 1 p.m.
