Augsburg falls to UW-Platteville

WAVERLY, Iowa -- Serenae Levine (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) posted her second double-double of the season, earning All-Tournament team honors in the process, as she led the Auggies in the second day of action at the Wartburg College Tournament.  Augsburg was not able to come up with a win in the consolation final, as they dropped a nonconference contest to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 63-49.

Augsburg (1-6 overall) was led by Levine's 13-point, 10-rebound effort, finishing as the only Auggie scoring in double figures. Lexi Thompson (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) finished with nine points and season-high four assists, while Brittany Dyshaw (FY, Eagan, Minn.) posted eight points and tied a career-high five steals.

UW-Platteville (9-3 overall) was led by four players finishing in double figures, including a 21-point, seven-rebound effort from Charity Stotmeister.

The Auggies came out playing well and held a three point advantage off a 3-pointer by Shannon Renne (JR,  Nicollet, Minn.) with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half.  Platteville went on a 20-0 run over the next seven minutes before Augsburg could rally with a 8-0 run to end the half and cut the Platteville lead to 28-19 at the intermission.

In the second half, Augsburg was able to cut the Platteville lead to 46-43 off an 8-0 run but the Auggies couldn't get any closer as the Pioneers held off the Augsburg charge and hung on for a 63-49 win.

For the game, Augsburg shot 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the floor, while Platteville connected on 40.4 percent (23-of-57) of their shots. The Pioneers held a narrow 38-37 advantage on the boards and were able to convert on 14-of-19 from the charity stripe, while the Auggies were only able to hit 5-of-8.

Augsburg returns to conference play on Saturday (1/2) when they travel to Northfield to take on MIAC rival St. Olaf College in a men's and women's double header. Women's action begins at 1 p.m., while the men tip-off at 3 p.m.
