Haglund sets 10,000 record at Occidental

LOS ANGELES (3/14/09) -- Augsburg College's Brent Haglund (JR, Fridley, Minn.) blasted his old school record in the 10,000-meter run by 34 seconds, leading the Auggie track and field teams in spring break meets at Occidental College (Calif.) over the weekend.

At the Occidental Distance Carnival on Friday, Haglund led the way for the Auggies with a third-place finish in the mixed 10,000-meter run, setting a new school record with a 31:06.35 finish, an NCAA Division III national championships provisional qualifying time. 

On the women's side, at Occidental's SCIAC Top 4 meet on Saturday, Whitney Holman (JR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had two strong performances in the sprints, winning the 100-meter dash (12.82 seconds) and finishing second in the 200-meter dash (26.63 seconds). Caroline Senungi (FY, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored an event win in the 100-meter hurdles (15.85 seconds).

For the Auggie men on Saturday, Nick Ward (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) claimed an event win for the Auggies with a triumph in the 100-meter dash (11.02 seconds). James Strand (JR, Brainerd, Minn.) placed second in the 400-meter dash (50.45 seconds), David Nestrud (JR, Braham, Minn.) placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.31 seconds) and Shane Pantila (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) placed third in the hammer throw (47.92 meters/175-feet-3.0). 

At the Occidental Distance Carnival on Friday, Jennifer Pulscher (FY, Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty HS) was the lone Auggie women's competitor, placing 24th in the 1,500-meter run (5:20.14).

Augsburg will return to action at the Hamline Invitational on April 4 in St. Paul.
