MEET RESULTS
ST. PETER, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's track and field team was led on Friday afternoon at the Gustavus Adolphus College Lee Krough Invitational by Nick Ward (So, Coon Rapids, Minn.), who recorded a MIAC-leading distance of 6.79 meters (22-3 1/2) in the long jump to finish fifth. The distance was a personal-best and currently leads the MIAC outdoor performance list by 9 1/4 inches. Ward also claimed an eighth place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.93 seconds.
The 4x100 meter relay team of #D.J. Wendell# (SR, Princeton, Minn./Charles M. Russell (Mont.) HS) ,
James Strand (JR, Pequot Lakes, Minn. / Brainerd HS),
Rick Wolke (Belle Plaine, Minn.) and Ward also had an impressive day, posting a MIAC-leading time of 42.52 seconds, recording a third place finish behind two very competitive Division II teams. Augsburg's time is just 0.62 seconds shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying time in this race.
In addition to the 4x100, the Auggies also had a successful day in two other relays, posting fourth place finishes in both the 4x200 and 4x800 meter races. The 4x200 relay team of
Joe Arnold (FY, Grand Rapids, Minn.), Wolke, Jackson Mboma, and
David Nestrud (JR, Braham, Minn.) finished in a time of 1:31.94, while the 4x800 meter relay team of
Brent Haglund (JR, Fridley, Minn.),
Ben Rodriguez (FY, Buffalo, Minn.), Arnold and
Victor Sanchez (JR, Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest HS) posted a time of 8:35.96.
Also recording top ten finishes for the Auggies were
Shane Pantila (SO, St. Michael, Minn. / STMA HS) and
Seth Norberg (FY, Northfield, Minn.), who finished fourth and eighth in the triple jump with distances of 13.50 (44-3 1/2) and 13.01 (42-8 1/4) meters respectively. In the hurdles,
Adam Horkey (JR, Windom, Minn.) claimed a fifth place in th 110 meter hurdles, while Strand finished sixth in the 400 meter hurdles. Strand's time of 56.00 seconds currently ranks him third on the MIAC outdoor performance list, just 2.30 seconds off the NCAA provisional qualifying time. Horkey's time is currently ranked fifth on the MIAC performance list. In the distance races, the Auggies claimed two top ten finishes with Haglund finishing eighth in the 1,500 meters and
Brian Byrnes (FY, Marshall, Minn.) posting a tenth place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:54.27.
The Augsburg men's track and field team will return to action on Friday (4/17) at the University of St. Thomas Twilight Meet, held in St. Paul, Minn.
