MIAC WOMEN'S GOLF ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College women's golfer
Johanna Frykmark (SO, Stockholm, Sweden/Rollingby Gymnasium HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
At the Macalester Spring Extravaganza on Saturday, Frykmark shot a career-best 4-over-par 76 to earn medalist honors, leading Augsburg to victory in the three-team meet with a single-round total of 366 -- its best round since the 2004-05 campaign.
Frykmark shot just the fourth round in the 70s in the 15-year history of the Augsburg women's golf program and the second-best round in school history. Marisa Navarro holds the school single-round record with a 72 shot in a 2005 meet. Frykmark's previous career-best round was 81.
An All-MIAC golfer last season, Frykmark has struggled with a chronic thumb injury this year. But she finished the spring half of the season strong, with three of her five spring rounds in the 70s and 80s, including Saturday's 76 round.
Frykmark finished the 2008-09 season with a 90.8 stroke average, second-best on the team. Her 91.0 career stroke average is currently fourth-best in school history.
