Ward named MIAC Co-Track Athlete of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College track and field athlete Nick Ward (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Co-Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Ward was awarded Athlete of the Week honors for his performance on Saturday at the Hamline University Meet of the UnSaintly, where he recorded a personal-best, school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10.74 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Ward's time currently ranks first in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 16th nationally among Division III athletes. Ward's mark breaks Matthew Shannon's school record time of 10.83 seconds set in 2001 and 2003. In addition to his performance in the 100, Ward also claimed a second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.68 meters and a 13th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.51 seconds.

On the season, Ward currently ranks first among MIAC men's track and field athletes in the 100-meter dash (10.74 seconds), while ranking second in the long jump (6.97 meters, 22-9.25) and 19th in the 200-meter dash (22.51 seconds) while also being a member of the second-ranked 400-meter relay team (42.52).

Last season, Ward claimed the MIAC men's 100-meter dash title and this season added the 2009 Indoor 55-meter dash title to his resume. Ward will look to defend his title at this weekend's MIAC championship in Northfield, Minn. Complete MIAC Championship meet information can be found on the MIAC website.
