Auggies claim 1-0 win at UW-Stout

BOXSCORE

MENOMONIE, Wis. -- Lacey Hoover (JR, Duluth, Minn./Central HS) scored off a corner kick by Whitney Holman (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) in the 60th minute, the lone goal the Augsburg College women's soccer team would need in a 1-0 triumph over the host University of Wisconsin-Stout in a nonconference contest on Tuesday evening at Nelson Field.

Making her first collegiate start in goal, Diana Bocklund (FY, Mahtomedi, Minn.) claimed four saves to notch the shutout win in the opening game of the season for both teams.

"It obviously feels good to win the season opener, especially on the road against a tough team in UW-Stout," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Overall, I was pleased with how the team played. We are mixing in a lot of new players this year and need to continue to come together. We have our work cut out for us; being young and having six of our first seven games on the road."

Augsburg had 10 shots in the game to Wisconsin-Stout's nine, and held the corner kick advantage, 3-2. Kaitlin Arjes had three saves in goal for the Blue Devils.

Hoover had three shots for the Auggies, while Holman and Courtney Gamrath (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had two shots each.

Augsburg returns to action on Friday (9/4) at 7 p.m. with a nonconference contest at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

"Loras will pose a great challenge for us on Friday as they are one of the better teams in the region," Navarre said. "We always seem to have great matches with Loras, so I know the players are looking forward to the game."
