Auggies 7th at Cobber Open

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Augsburg College women's golfers Stefani Zappa and Johanna Frykmark finished in the top 18 in individual results, as the Auggies claimed a seventh-place team finish at the Concordia College-Moorhead Cobber Open, held Saturday and Sunday at the Wildflower Golf Club.

Augsburg finished with a two-day total of 745 (378-367) in the nine-team tournament, marking its best team finish in a 36-hole event since a 738 finish at the St. Thomas Division III Midwest Classic on Sept. 25-26, 2004. The Auggies' 367 total on Sunday was the team's best round of the season.

Zappa finished 13th in the 54-player field with a 172 total (85-87), the second-best finish in her career for a 36-hole event, bettered only by her 168 finish at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire meet last weekend. Meanwhile, Frykmark finished with a 177 (92-85) total, good for an 18th-place tie.

"Johanna gave it her best on every shot and finished with 85," said Augsburg head coach Ted Vickerman. "She hit the ball super good all weekend. She chipped in for birdie on Saturday."

Meanwhile, three other Auggies also set career-best scores for both 18- and 36-hole efforts, with Jill Ferguson shooting 200 (102-98), Miranda Maxwell shooting 201 (104-97) and Megan Dale shooting 207 (99-108).

"The women's golf team had another great weekend. I am really proud that they accomplished one of their goals of having 4 scores under 100," Vickerman said. "Megan shot her career-best score on Saturday and broke 100 for the first time (99). Jill improved each day of the tournament."

Augsburg returns to action next Saturday and Sunday (9/19-20) at the Carleton Division III Midwest Classic in Lake City, Minn.
