Auggies post highest finish in past decade at Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's cross country team posted its highest team finish in the past decade at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational on a beautiful fall Saturday at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.

The Auggies finished in 12th place, moving up 11 places from their 2007 finish, posting a team score of 373 points. Augsburg was able to finish ahead of MIAC foes Bethel, Carleton, Gustavus, Macalester and St. Mary's.

The Auggies were led by Brent Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn.), who finished in eighth place, claiming his third consecutive top-10 finish of the year. Haglund finished the tough 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:55. Ben Rodriguez (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) was next across for Augsburg, claiming a 62nd-place finish with a time of 27:27.5.

Matt Schafer (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and Shane Wyborny (SR, Detroit Lakes, Minn.), finished third and fourth for the Auggies, recording times of 27:57.7 and 27:59.4 respectively. Rounding out the top five for Augsburg was Victor Sanchez (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS), who finished with a 28:19.6 clocking. 

The Auggies are off next weekend and return to action on Saturday (10/10) when they travel to Kenosha, Wis. for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational.
