MINNEAPOLIS -- Nine individuals will be inducted into
Augsburg College's Athletic Hall of Fame during the annual enshrinement ceremony this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Christensen Center. The nine individuals will be the 37th class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, a group that now includes 250 individuals and one team.

2009 Hall of Fame inductees:
BOB ARVOLD '82 (Wrestling) -- Arvold was one of the greats during the period when Augsburg's wrestling program was establishing itself as a national power on the small-college level. Arvold won Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles three times -- at 142 pounds in 1979 and 1981, and at 150 pounds in 1982 -- while earning MIAC co-MVP honors his senior season. Also in his senior year, he earned NAIA All-American honors, finishing fifth at the national tournament at 142 pounds. While at Augsburg, he also participated in student government and the study abroad program. Arvold earned his degree in political science in 1982. He currently works as a sales manager for Canon Business Solutions, and lives in Plymouth, Minn., with his wife Melinda. They have five children -- Alexander, Spencer, Aaron, Austin and Eliza.
JOEL ENGEL '87 (Men's Basketball) -- Engel was a starting guard for the Augsburg men's basketball team for each of his three seasons, earning All-MIAC first-team honors in both 1985-86 and 1986-87. He was a member of the 1984-85 Auggie squad that won the MIAC title and qualified for the first time in school history for the NCAA Division III national playoffs. Engel finished his 1,040 career points (13.1 points-per-game), one of 16 players to reach the 1,000-point milestone in school history. A team MVP and team captain, Engel earned the team's Auggie Award in 1986. Engel earned his degree in business marketing from Augsburg in 1987, and worked for General Mills from 1987 to 2004, earning several national sales awards. After a short stint working for the Minnesota Timberwolves, he returned to the consumer foods/products industry, with Advantage Sales/Marketing from 2005-07, and in his current position with Pepsico since 2007, as a senior account manager for the Quaker-Tropicana-Gatorade Division/SV Team. He has remained active in athletics, both playing and coaching, including playing on three state championship men's basketball teams. Engel and his wife, Karen, have three children -- Derrick, Kaylee and Sean -- and live in Chaska, Minn.
MATT FARLEY '88 (Baseball) -- Farley earned All-MIAC honors three seasons (1986, 1987, 1988) as an outfielder for some of the best Augsburg baseball teams in school history. The Auggies won the MIAC championship in 1987 and qualified for the NCAA Division III national playoffs in both 1986 and 1987. Farley finished his career with a .347 batting average and .554 slugging percentage, with 23 doubles, 11 triples, 18 home runs, 40 stolen bases and 109 RBI in his career. He hit above .330 each of his four seasons. Farley remained active in baseball for many years after graduating, playing on Class A amateur state title teams in 1993 and 1997 with St. Paul Highland Park with fellow Auggie Hall of Famers Mark Herzog and Steve Nayman, earning MVP honors at the 1997 state tournament. He also played for the Dundas Dukes under Augsburg Hall of Famer Bill Nelson, winning state titles in 1998 and 1999. He retired from baseball in 2000, and works as a Realtor for ReMax Results in Edina, Minn. He lives in St. Louis Park, Minn., and has two children, Grace and Ben.
STEFANIE LODERMEIER STRUSZ '98 (Women's Basketball) -- Considered one of the top women's basketball players in school history, Lodermeier Strusz holds most of Augsburg's major school records, including career points (1,599), career points-per-game (16.2), career rebounds (956) and career rebounds-per-game (9.7). In all, she holds seven career and four single-season school records, and her sophomore, junior and senior season scoring totals are the top three scoring efforts in a single season in school history. A forward, she earned All-MIAC honors in 1995-96, 1996-97 and 1997-98, was named a 1997-98 preseason All-America and earned honorable-mention Team of the Year honors from Division III Basketball Online her senior year. An Academic All-MIAC honoree, she was an Augsburg Senior Honor Athlete in 1998, while also earning Joyce Pfaff Academic Award honors. A health and physical education major at Augsburg, she graduated in 1998 and later earned a degree in special education from St. Cloud State. She currently teaches special education at Woodbury Elementary School in the South Washington County School District, and lives in Maplewood, Minn., with her husband Jon Strusz.
DALLAS MILLER '88 (Men's Hockey) -- One of the top goal-scorers in the history of Augsburg's men's hockey program, Miller finished his career with 81 goals and 79 assists for 160 career points, including 25 power-play goals. A three-time all-conference selection (All-MIAC 1986-87 and 1987-88, All-MIAC honorable-mention in 1984-85), Miller earned conference MVP honors his senior season. He was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association All-American squad in both 1987 and 1988, one of only five men's hockey players in Augsburg history to earn multiple All-American honors. An accounting major, Miller earned Academic All-MIAC honors in 1988. Since graduation in 1988, Miller played Senior A hockey for the Bucks Unpainted Furniture team for six years. Miller has worked for the past 13 years as an asset manager for Wells Fargo in its leasing division. Through his work, he has also been active in Habitat for Humanity. Miller and his wife, Julie, have two daughters, Jordyn and Jenna, and live in Lakeville, Minn.
RUTH OLSON '60 (Women's Basketball) -- Olson was a member of the famed “Auggiettes” women's basketball teams in the late 1950s and early 1960s, teams that dominated Minneapolis Park Board play and contests against other Twin Cities colleges during the era. Olson was a member of the 1956-57 Auggiettes squad that was inducted as a team into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. She was an Honor Athlete selection in 1960, and served in the Augsburg Mission Society. Olson was a physical education major at Augsburg and graduated in 1960. She taught physical education, health and social studies at schools in Blooming Prairie and Pipestone, Minn., and also serve as a junior high school secretary and sports liaison between junior and senior high schools. Olson has also been active as a worker in numerous sports, including wrestling, volleyball, track and field and gymnastics, and has also been active in her church and as a member of the American Association of University Women. Olson and her husband Lyle, live in Faribault, Minn. They have two children, Joel and Kathryn.
DREW PRIVETTE '89 (Football/Men's Hockey) -- An outstanding athlete in both football and men's hockey at Augsburg, Privette has remained loyal to his alma mater, where he has worked for the past 18 years. Privette earned All-MIAC honors as a football wide receiver in 1987 and 1988, finishing his career with 146 receptions for 1,792 yards and 15 touchdowns. In hockey, he was an All-MIAC honorable-mention forward in 1986-87 and 1988-89, finishing with 24 goals and 28 assists for 52 points in 94 career games. He had 10-plus points in each of his four hockey seasons. In addition, he also played golf for one season at Augsburg. A physical education major at Augsburg, he graduated in 1989, and currently works as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for the Auggie football team, as well as serving as the college's co-director of athletic department concessions and merchandising. As a coach, he has directed the pass-oriented “Air Auggie Spread” offense, and has coached the top three passing quarterbacks in school history -- Jordan Berg (2005-08), Derrin Lamker (1993-97) and Paul Tetzloff (1996, 1998-2000). In his role as men's athletic recruiting coordinator, he has brought 44 first-team All-MIAC performers and 10 NCAA Division III All-Americans to Augsburg. Privette, his wife Molly and daughter Anna live in Mahtomedi, Minn.
DANIEL ROFF '82 (Football) -- As a football running back, Roff earned All-MIAC honors and Academic All-NAIA District 13 honors in 1981. His 2,042 career rushing yards are third-most in school history, and he holds the school record for career rushing touchdowns with 18. Since graduating from Augsburg in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in English education and his master's degree from St. Thomas in 1993, Roff has been a successful teacher, administrator and coach at the high school level. From 1983-99, he was an English and physical education teacher at Minneapolis Edison High School, also serving as a coach in football, wrestling and track. In eight years as wrestling head coach, he guided 27 state tournament entrants and earned two Minneapolis Conference wrestling and four conference Staff of the Year awards. He also was part of football staffs that won section titles five times. In 1999, he was named athletic director at Edison, and served in that role until 2007, when he moved to the Fridley Public Schools, where he currently serves as activities administrator. He was named Region 5AA Activities Administrator of the Year in 2007, and was inducted into the Edison Athletic Hall of Fame. He has also served as a wrestling official at both the state and collegiate level, has been on several Minnesota State High School League committees and has served as a youth education teacher at his church. Roff and his wife Julie have three children, Ben, Andy (a senior at Augsburg) and Abby, and live in Plymouth, Minn.
SONJA SLACK PAYNE '91 (Softball/Tennis) -- Slack Payne shined in two sports, softball and tennis, as an Augsburg student-athlete. In two seasons of softball, Payne earned All-MIAC honors both years as an outfielder, earning All-West Region first-team honors in her senior season. She hit .353 in 1990 with a .500 slugging percentage and 15 RBI, while hitting .287 with 20 runs scored in 1991, playing on teams that went 47-22 in her two seasons. She was also part of a rare triple play in a 1991 game. She also played two seasons of tennis (1988, 1989) at Augsburg as a No. 3 singles competitor. Also at Augsburg, she was a resident assistant, member of Link and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and did a study abroad program in Norway. She earned her degree with a Norwegian major from Augsburg in 1991. She moved to Charlotte, N.C., in 1992, where she worked as a preschool teacher for six years, worked for the state Department of Social Services and as a social worker for children in foster care. She earned her master's degree in social work from the University of South Carolina in 2000. She has also remained active as a softball and tennis player, and has coached youth sports. Slack Payne and her husband, George, live in Charlotte with their three children, Chloe, Sarah and Max.
