Thompson leads Auggies in loss to St. Olaf

MINNEAPOLIS -- Lexi Thompson (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) led Augsburg with 10 points and eight rebounds as Augsburg dropped an Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest to St. Olaf College 82-62 on Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (3-15 overall, 3-12 MIAC) was led offensively by Micha Sater (FY, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and Thompson who had 11 and 10 points respectively for the Auggies. Thompson also posted a team-high eight points and four steals. Katie Ahlstrom (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) provided a nice spark for the Auggies off the bench, scoring seven points and adding a pair of offensive rebounds.

St. Olaf (3-15 overall, 3-15 MIAC) was led by Terin Euerle, who finished with a double-double on the afternoon, scoring 10 points and adding 13 rebounds.

After trailing by as many as 16 in the first part of the second half, Augsburg put together an impressive 17-6 run to pull within five at 59-54 with 6:55 to play in the game. Augsburg was not able to convert on their next five possessions and had to foul down the stretch. St. Olaf was able to hit 13-of-16 in the final five minutes to hold off the Augsburg rally.

For the game, Augsburg shot 32.7 percent (18-of-55) from the field, while St. Olaf converted on 43.6 percent (24-of-55) of its shots. St. Olaf claimed a narrow 40-36 advantage on the boards, while the Auggies claimed a 17-12 advantage in second change points.

Augsburg and St. Olaf both return to action on Monday (2/1) with Augsburg hosting Gustavus and St. Olaf hosting Carleton.
