Auggies compete at Twin Cities Classic

WAYZATA, Minn. -- Zach Johnson (SO, Sartell, Minn.) shot a career-best 228 for Augsburg College, as the Auggies closed the fall half of the 2010-11 men's golf season at the Gustavus Adolphus College Twin Cities Classic, held Saturday to Monday at three Twin Cities golf courses.

Johnson had rounds of 76, 75 and 77 for his 228 total, his collegiate-best 54-hole score, to finish 28th overall in the 107-player event.

As a team, Augsburg finished 12th in the 16-school, 18-team tournament with a three-day total of 934 (317-305-312). The tournament was played at the Elk River (Minn.) Country Club on Saturday, the Links at Northfork in Ramsey, Minn., on Sunday and at the Wayzata Country Club on Monday.

Joel Kociemba (SR, Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS) tied for 42nd with a 232 (81-74-77) total, while Brian Deuel (JR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) tied for 53rd with a 236 (79-80-77) total. Jason Henning (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) tied for 64th with a 238 (81-76-81) total. Tim Hermann (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn.) shot 249 and Alex Umland (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) shot 254.

As a team, Augsburg finished the fall half of the season with a 316.9 team stroke average. The Auggies resume play in the spring half of the school year.
