FITNESS TESTING STANDINGS
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team hosted its annual preseason fitness testing challenge this past weekend, and crowned the program's first-ever "Auggie Iron Man" award-winner. The Iron Man Award was given to the individual who accumulated the most points in four physical challenge competitions: mile run, bench press, vertical jump, and sit-ups. Points were awarded for each test by order of finish.
This season's Iron Man Award-winner was
Brett Sorenson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS), who recorded a total of 62 points in the competition. Sorenson recorded the team's highest score in the standing vertical jump (32 inches), the second-highest score in the bench press (19 reps of 185 pounds), and the team's fifth-fastest mile time (5:39). Sorenson also recorded 51 sit-ups in one minute.
Tony Doran (SR, Richfield, Minn./Trinity-River Ridge HS) won the mile-run competition, recording a time of 5:33. Doran finished second in the Iron Man competition with a total of 59 points.
Cory Polta (SO, Spring Lake Park, Minn.) won the bench-press competition, completing 23 repetitions of 185 pounds.
Andy Seidlitz (FY, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) won the sit-up competition, recording 60 repetitions in one minute.
The Auggies open up the season against Northland College (Wis.) on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
