GAME BOXSCORE
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Augsburg College's
Grace Edgar (SR, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) collected 49 saves in goal, but two goals in a four-minute span in the second period gave Lake Forest College a 2-0 win in a nonconference women's hockey game on Friday night at LFC's Alumni Memorial Rink.
Augsburg was outshot by a 51-25 margin, but Edgar recorded 49 saves -- just one save off her career high -- to keep the Auggies in the game. Augsburg outshot Lake Forest by a 13-11 margin in the third period, but was unable to get a shot past LFC goalie Alyssa Wintermute, who had 25 saves for the win.
The game, the season-opener for both teams, marked the head coaching debut for Augsburg's
Michelle McAteer, who took over the program after Jill Pohtilla led the Auggies for the first 15 seasons of the team's existence.
Angie Chronis scored both goals for Lake Forest, the first at the 10:45 mark of the second period from Jenn Caldwell, and her second at the 14:45 mark from Chelsea Thompson and Jessica Dare.
The teams complete the season-opening series on Saturday (10/30) at 5:30 p.m. at Lake Forest.
