COON RAPIDS, Minn. --
Stefani Zappa (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Patrick Henry HS) became the first Augsburg College women's golfer to earn multiple All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors, finishing seventh at the conference meet held over the weekend at the Bunker Hills Golf Course.
Competing in her final collegiate event, Zappa recorded the highest-ever finish for an Auggie at the MIAC championships, finishing seventh with a 250 (86-83-81) total, tying her school record set last year for best score in a 54-hole event. Her final round 81 on Monday was the seventh-best single-round score in school history.
Zappa's seventh-place finish is the fourth All-MIAC finish (top 10) for an Auggie women's golfer in school history and a one-place improvement over her eighth-place finish last year.
Johanna Frykmark (SR, Taby, Sweden/Rollingby Gymnasium HS) finished 10th in 2007 and Andrea Sievert finished ninth in 1998.
With a 25th-place finish with a total of 271 (93-90-88) in her final collegiate meet, Frykmark joined Zappa as two of just three women's golfers in Augsburg history to record 25th-or-better finishes in three MIAC meets. Frykmark finished 10th in 2007 and 16th in 2009; Zappa finished 25th in 2008 before her eighth- and seventh-place finishes the past two years; and Marisa Navarro placed 15th in 2004, 12th in 2005 and 18th in 2006.
As a team, Augsburg finished seventh with a team total of 1,089 strokes (379-363-347). Augsburg's 1,089 total is its best-ever team finish for Augsburg at a 54-hole event, eclipsing last year's 1,092 total. Augsburg's final-round 347 was the fifth-best single-round score in school history.
Augsburg's seventh-place team out of 10 teams competing matched last year's team finish, and is also tied for the school's best-ever conference meet finish; the Auggies finished seventh out of eight teams in the 1997 conference meet.
Jill Ferguson (SO, Batavia, Ill.) finished in 29th place with a 277 (100-91-86) total, with her 277 total a collegiate personal-best 54-hole total, and her final-round 86 a collegiate personal-best round.
Megan Dale (SR, Northfield, Minn.) also set personal-bests in her final collegiate event, finishing 42nd with a 296 (105-99-92) total. Her 296 total for 54 holes and her final-round 92 were both collegiate personal-best scores.
Ashley Lindemann (FY, Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) finished in 43rd place for the Auggies with a 302 (100-101-101) total.
