Auggies top Blue Devils in straight sets

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College volleyball team cruised to a straight-set victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 in a nonconference match on Tuesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (12-10 overall) jumped out to an early lead in each of the first three games, and were able to pull away from the Blue Devils (1-18 overall) to secure their 10th nonconference win of the season.

As a team, the Auggies recorded 45 kills in the match, against 30 for the Blue Devils. Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS), Amanda Unze (SO, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) and Colleen Ourada (FY, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) led the Augsburg offensive attack. Christensen led Augsburg with a team-high 15 kills and .433 hitting percentage, while Unze and Ourada recorded 11 and 10 kills respectively.

Setter Emily McCourt (FY, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 40 assists in the match.

Katelyn Berens (FY, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) led the Auggies with 14 digs, while Jessica Hilk (SR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 13 digs. Nikolene Miller (SO, Tomahawk, Wis.) recorded three blocks, while Unze had four blocks (one solo).

Wisconsin-Stout defensive specialist Kim Labat (SO, Marshall, Minn.) recorded a match-high 15 digs. Kate Mikutowski (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) had eight kills, while Hope Weilage (SO, Marshall, Minn.) had six kills and three blocks. Mallory White (FY, St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) recorded 24 assists and 13 digs.

The Auggies host two key Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contests this weekend. Augsburg plays host to Macalester College on Friday (10/8) at 7 p.m., before facing conference leader and No. 13-ranked St. Olaf College Saturday (10/9) at 3 p.m.
