MIAC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY AWARDS
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg men's cross country runners
Matt Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and
Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) earned MIAC all-conference honors, it was announced on Thursday by the conference office.
Schafer earned his first all-conference honorable-mention honor after finishing in 19th place with a time of 26:50.6 at the 2010 MIAC championships. As one of the Auggies' most consistent runners this season, Schafer set a career-best with a time of 26:26.5 at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational earlier this year. A two-year participant in the Augsburg program, Schafer finished as the Auggies' top individual runner in all but one of the teams six races this season.
Arnold was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. In his three years at Augsburg, Arnold has participated in 19 races, and recorded a personal-best time of 27:39 at the St. Olaf College Invite earlier this season.
The Augsburg men's cross country team closes out the regular season on Saturday (11/13) when they run at the NCAA Division III Central Regional at Wartburg (Iowa).
