MOUNT VERNON, Iowa --
Brittany Dyshaw (SO, Eagan, Minn.) scored 13 points with five steals and five rebounds, but her Augsburg College women's basketball team fell in its season-opening game, 80-39 to Mount Mercy College in a nonconference matchup at the Cornell College Classic on Friday evening at the Cornell Multi-Sport Center.
Dyshaw connected on 6-of-10 shooting from the field for Augsburg (0-1 overall), while also adding two blocked shots.
Serenae Levine (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored eight points with six rebounds, and
Jordan Feis (FY, Truman, Minn.) scored five points with four rebounds in her collegiate debut.
Mount Mercy, an NAIA program playing in its sixth game of the season (3-3 overall), was led by Emily Greiner, who scored 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 3-for-3 from three-point range. Micha Mims and Tonya Davis had 10 points apiece, and Ashley Koch had seven points, eight rebounds, six steals and three blocked shots.
Augsburg held an 11-9 lead with 12:31 left in the first half, but Mount Mercy outscored the Auggies by a 27-8 margin the rest of the period to take a 36-19 lead at halftime. The Mount Mercy lead did not dip below 15 points the rest of the way.
The Auggies claimed 17 steals in the game, led by Dyshaw's five and four from
Nikki Borkhuis (JR, Watertown, S.D.). Fifteen Auggies saw playing time in the game.
Augsburg faces Clarke College (Iowa) at the Cornell tournament on Saturday (11/20) at 4 p.m. in Mount Vernon
