MIAC MEN'S HOCKEY ATHLETES OF WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College forward
Joel Sauer (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Sauer had three goals and three assists during the Auggies' weekend sweep of St. John's, enabling the Auggies to improve to 6-3-1 overall, 2-2-0 in MIAC play.
In Friday's 6-3 win, Sauer had two goals and two assists, as the Auggies rallied with three third-period goals to claim the win. He had a goal and assist in
Augsburg's 4-2 win on Saturday, as the Auggies again rallied with three goals in the third period to score the win.
On the season, Sauer leads the Auggies in both assists (13) and total points (19). His assist total is currently tops among all NCAA Division III men's hockey players nationally (eighth in assists per-game with 1.30), and his point total is third-most nationally (sixth in points per-game with 1.90), according to the
Collegehockeystats.net Division III national statistics.
Augsburg is idle for the holiday break, and returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 7:05 p.m., with a nonconference game against Finlandia (Mich.) at Ed Saugestad Rink.
