2010 NSCAA ALL-NORTH REGION TEAMS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Four Augsburg College men's soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Performance Subaru Division III All-North Region teams, it was announced on Wednesday.

Defender/forward Chad Gilmer (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and forward Ben Wexler (SR, Minnetonka, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS) were named to the first team, while defender Peter Loyd (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and midfielder #T.J. Haag# (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Burnsville HS) were named to the third team. Augsburg had the most individuals named to the three 11-player teams of any Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school.

The quartet was part of one of the top squads in Augsburg men's soccer history. Under seventh-year head coach Greg Holker, Augsburg finished the 2010 season with a school-record 16 victories (16-5-1) and the MIAC's postseason playoff championship. Augsburg qualified for the NCAA Division III national playoffs for the second time in the last three years, and finished with a double-digit win record for the fourth time in the last five years.

The MIAC Player of the Year and an All-MIAC first-team honoree in 2010, Gilmer developed a reputation as one of the most versatile players in the region. He started the season as a forward, but played multiple positions on the field throughout the year, starting at defender in the latter portion of the Auggies' season.

A dangerous player on set pieces, Gilmer finished with a team-best eight goals and 21 points (with five assists), including four game-winning goals. He saw action in 1,696 of Augsburg's 2,040 team minutes (83.1 percent) this season, the second-most minutes played of any Auggie.

His eight goals tied him for fourth among all conference players in overall statistics, and his 21 points were tied for fifth-best in the league. In conference games-only, his four goals and 10 points both ranked ninth-best among league players. An All-MIAC honorable-mention recipient last season, Gilmer has nine goals and five assists for 23 points in 36 career games (all starts).

Wexler transferred to Augsburg after playing his first three seasons at Division I Providence (R.I.), and his addition paid immediate dividends for the Auggies. He earned All-MIAC first-team honors this season.

Wexler finished this season with six goals and one assists for 13 points in 19 games (17 starts), the second-most goals of any Auggie, including four game-winning goals. His six goals ranked eighth among MIAC players in overall statistics.

An All-MIAC first-team honoree in both 2009 and 2010, Loyd was an anchor of the one of the strongest defenses in the conference. In overall play, the Auggies ranked third defensively in the MIAC, allowing a 0.79 team goals-against-average (18 goals in 22 games), while recording an MIAC-high 13 shutouts. Augsburg allowed just nine goals in 10 conference games, a 0.87 team GAA that ranked third-best in the conference, with five shutouts.

Loyd saw action in a team-high 1,806 minutes of action -- on the field 88.5 percent of the team's total minutes this season, with three goals to his credit. In his three seasons at Augsburg (59 games, 58 starts), he has six goals and one assists for 13 points.

Haag developed a reputation as a solid midfielder, seeing action in 20 games (13 starts) and 1,082 minutes this season. In two seasons after transferring from Dakota County Technical College, Haag had one assist in 29 Auggie games (20 starts). This past summer, he also played for the Rochester Thunder, a United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League team.
