Two first place finishes and one school record leads Auggies at Carleton

MEET RESULTS

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Whitney Holman (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and Shanek Telphia (FY, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS) claimed top honors in the 55 and 400 meter dashes respectively, while Brittany Tuberg (FY, Apple Valley, Minn.) posted a school record in the pole vault to lead the Auggies to a fifth place team finish on Saturday at the Carleton Meet of the Hearts.

Augsburg continued its strong presence in the sprint races this weekend. In the 55-meter dash, Holman claimed top honors with a time of 7.36 seconds, currently the fastest time in the MIAC and just 0.07 seconds off an NCAA provisional time, while Katie Vrieze (JR, Richfield, Minn.) finished fourth, recording a time of 7.66 seconds. Holman and Vrieze also finished second and third respectively, in the 200 meter dash, clocking times of 26.63 and 26.91 respectively, both representing top-nine times in the conference this season.

In the 400 meters, Shanek Telphia (FY, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS) claimed a first-place finish, with a 58.89 clocking. Telphia's time is currently the second fastest time in the MIAC and is just 0.25 seconds off the NCAA provisional mark.

Brittany Tuberg (FY, Apple Valley, Minn.) continued to make her mark on the Auggie record books, recording her second school record in as many weeks. Tuberg cleared 3.10 meters (10-2), which ties her for the third best jump in the MIAC so far this season.

Also recording top-two finishes for Augsburg were Telphia and Caroline Senungi (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS). Telphia finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.09 meters (16-8.5), while Senungi claimed a second-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles with a 9.03 clocking.

Ashley Carney (FY, Lakeville, Minn.), Jennifer Pulscher (SO, Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty HS) and Amy Opsal (SO, Mankato, Minn./St. Clair HS) also claimed top-five finishes for Augsburg. Carney finished fourth in the 400 meter dash (63.37), while Pulscher finished fifth in the 1,000 meter run (3:25.72) and Opsal finished fifth in the 600 meter dash (1:51.98).

As a team, Augsburg finished fifth with 74.0 team points, while Gustavus claimed the team title with 176.0 team points.

The Augsburg women's track team returns to action on Saturday (2/20) when it takes part in the University of Minnesota Parent's Day Open.
