Auggies compete at Showshoe Open

RESULTS

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg men's track and field team took part in the highly competitive University of Minnesota Showshoe Open on Friday night at Minnesota's Fieldhouse. Nick Ward's (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) third-place finish in the 60 meter dash was the highlight for the Auggies.

Ward claimed his third-place honors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.95 seconds, finishing as the top-Division III athlete in the event. Ward's time tied the school record in the event, a mark posted by Matthew Shannon in 2004. Henry Millette (FY, Brainerd, Minn.) also competed in the 60 meters for the Auggies, posting a time of 7.54 seconds.

Augsburg jumpers Shane Pantila (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Emmanuel Marcellino (SO Jumps Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) both had good outings for the Auggies. Pantila posted a season-best mark in the long jump of 6.67 meters (21-10.75), currently ranking him second in the MIAC in that event. Pantila posted a mark of 13.62 meters (44-8.25) in the triple jump and finished as the top Division III athlete in the event. Marcellino, posted a mark of 5.85 meters in the long jump and a season-best 13.14 meters in the triple jump, ranking him 5th in the MIAC in that event.

Augsburg's Matthew Schafer (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and Shane Wyborny (SR, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) both recorded person-best times in their respective events. Schafer posted a time of 1:57.79 in the 800 meters, currently ranking him sixth in the MIAC and as the top first-year in the event. Wyborny set his personal-best time in the 3,000 meter run, posting a time of 9:03.92. Brent Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn.) also competed in the 3,000, posting a time of 8:52.62.

Augsburg sprinters Rick Wolke (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn.) and Joe Arnold (SO, Grand Rapids, Minn./ Grand Rapids HS) posted times of 52.11 and 52.25 respectively in the 400 meters, while Adam Horkey (SR, Windom, Minn.) and David Nestrud (SR, Braham, Minn.) posted times of 8.74 and 9.06 respectively in the 60 meter hurdles.

Augsburg returns to action tomorrow (2/20) at the St. Olaf College Tostrud Classic.
