NORTHFIELD, Minn. --
Matthew Schafer (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) set a new Augsburg school record in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:33.69 to lead the Auggies at the St. Olaf Qualifier on Friday night at the Tostrud Center.
Rick Wolke (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn.) recorded a personal-best time for the Auggies in the 400 meters, finishing second in a time of 50.89 seconds. Wolke also ran on the Auggies 1600 meter relay team, which posted a season-best time, finishing second in 3:26.82. Also running on the 4x400 were Schafer,
James Strand (SR, Brainerd, Minn.) and
Joe Arnold (SO, Grand Rapids, Minn.).
Posting two second-place finishes for Augsburg was
Nick Ward (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn. ) in the 200 and 55 meters. In the 200, Ward recorded a season-best time of 22.90, while he posted a time of 6.48 in the 55 meters.
Shane Pantila (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) continued his strong season in the jumps, claiming top honors in the triple jump with a mark of 13.21 meters (43-4.25).
Adam Horkey (SR, Windom, Minn.) rounded out the top finishes for Augsburg, tying his personal-best time of 7.99 seconds, finishing third in the 55 meter hurdles.
The Augsburg men's track and field team returns to action on Friday and Saturday (3/5-6) when they travel back to Northfield, Minn. to take part in the MIAC Indoor Championships at Carleton College. Championship schedules and information can be found
