MINNEAPOLIS -- With a team grade-point average of 3.32, the Augsburg College women's soccer team earned a 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award, it was announced recently.

Both the Auggie women's soccer team (3.32 GPA) and Auggie men's soccer team (3.42 GPA) earned NSCAA Team Academic Awards, as one of 102 schools nationwide -- and one of five Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools -- to have both its men's and women's program earn the honor.

A total of 583 soccer teams (145 men, 338 women) posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year.

It's the first time that Augsburg's women's soccer program, coached by Mike Navarre, has earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

Augsburg's women's soccer team was a success in the classroom in 2009. Six Auggies -- Gaby Hamerlinck, Whitney Holman, Lacey Hoover, Emily Sell, Becky Solheim and Lisa Weniger -- earned Academic All-MIAC honors, and Holman earned earned both NSCAA Scholar All-Region and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors for the second straight season.

Augsburg finished 6-7-5 overall, 3-6-2 in MIAC play in 2009 under 11th-season head coach Navarre.
