MEET RESULTS
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- Augsburg's
Nick Ward (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn.),
Matthew Schafer (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and
Seth Norberg (SO, Northfield, Minn.) recorded top finishes in the 55 meter dash, 1,000 meter run and triple jump respectively to lead the Auggies at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday.
Also claiming a top finish for Augsburg was the 4x200 meter relay team of Ward,
Rick Wolke (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn.),
James Strand (SR, Pequot Lakes, Minn./Brainerd HS), and
Henry Millette (FY, Brainard, Minn.). The Auggies recorded the fastest time in the MIAC so far this season (1:32.56) and set a school record in the process, besting the mark of 1:32.67 set by Brian Warden, Desman Oakley, Kris Froyum, and Damien Rochon-Washington in 1998.
Ward's winning 55 meter dash time of 6.46 seconds ties his NCAA provisional mark set last week at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Invitational and is still the fastest time in the MIAC this season. Wolke posted a sixth-place finish in the event, with a 6.77 clocking.
Schafer posted the first event win of his Auggie career, claiming the 1,000 meter title in a time of 2:37.39. His time is currently ranked seventh in the conference. Teammate
Jason Chrudimsky (JR, Antigo, Wis.) finished fifth in the event with a time of 2:48.18.
Norberg rounded out the top finishes for Augsburg, taking home top honors in the triple jump with a mark of 11.77 meters (38-7.5).
Also having a good meet for Augsburg was
Joe Arnold (SO, Grand Rapids, Minn.) and
Adam Horkey (SR, Windom, Minn.). Arnold finished second in the 400 meters (51.86), while Horkey finished fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.12).
The solid distance crew of
Victor Sanchez (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS),
Brent Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn.) and
Shane Wyborny (SR, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in the mile run just missing out on the Augsburg school record (4:28.02). Sanchez finished in 4:28.45 while Haglund and Wyborny finished in 4:30.86 and 4:33.12 respectively.
Rounding out the top performances for Augsburg was the 1,600-meter relay team, which finished in fourth place with a season-best time of 3:28.39. Team members were
