Shannon Renne (JR, Nicollet, Minn.) led Augsburg College with 16 points but its wasn't enough as the Auggies fell to Macalester College 94-66 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Augsburg (3-18 overall, 3-15 MIAC) had four players finish in double figures led by Renne's 16 points, which included a 4-for-9 performance from behind the arc.
Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS) finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while
Micha Sater (FY, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and
Serenae Levine (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) each chipped in 11 points.
Macalester (12-9 overall, 12-6 MIAC) was led by Ann Baltzer, who finished with a game-high 29 points on 14-for-16 shooting from the floor.
The Auggies came out playing well. A
Kylee Persing (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) jumper at the 12:14 mark brought Augsburg within one at 13-12. Macalester put together a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to extend its lead to double digits. The Scots continued to stretch their lead and took a 45-28 advantage into the locker room at the half.
Augsburg couldn't slow down the Scots in paint in the second half and Macalester went to claim a 94-66 win over the Auggies.
For the game, Augsburg shot 31.3 percent (20-of-64) from the floor, while Macalester converted on 50.7 percent (35-of-69) of its shots. Macalester held a 47-40 advantage on the boards and was able to outscore the Auggies 44-23 in points in the paint.
Augsburg and Macalester both return to action on Wednesday (2/10) with the Auggies traveling to St. Benedict and Macalester hosting Concordia.
