MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College first baseman
Joe Pierce (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his effort in the Auggies' spring break trip in Arizona, the conference announced on Monday.
Pierce hit .500 (17-of-34) during the past week, with team highs in hits (17), extra-base hits (6), RBI (13) and slugging percentage (.735), while striking out just once in 34 at-bats, as Augsburg went 5-5 at the Greater Phoenix Invitational. Pierce had at least one hit in each of the Auggies' 10 games, extending his hitting streak to 13 straight games. He also had six multiple-hit games, including a 3-for-4, 3-RBI effort in a 13-6 win over Keene State (N.H.) on Friday. Pierce also drove in at least one run in nine of the Auggies' 10 games in Arizona.
On the season, Pierce is hitting a team-best .460 (23-of-50), with six extra-base hits, 15 RBI, a .620 slugging percentage and a .491 on-base percentage. He has struck out just two times in 50 at-bats so far this season.
Augsburg (6-9 overall) returns to action on Thursday (3/25) at 9 a.m., facing St. Scholastica in a nonconference doubleheader at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
