MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's soccer team moved into the national rankings for the first time this season, ranked No. 23 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III national poll, released on Tuesday. The Auggies also moved up one spot in the NSCAA Division III North Region poll to the No. 3 position.

The national ranking is the first for Augsburg since the opening weeks of the 2009 campaign. The No. 3 regional ranking is the highest for Augsburg since the team was ranked No. 2 in the North Region in the second and third polls of the 2009 season (Sept. 15-22).

Augsburg moved into the national rankings after a strong week which included two shutout victories -- a 4-0 nonconference win over Northwestern-Roseville last Monday and a 1-0, two-overtime victory over then-No. 15-ranked Macalester in conference play on Saturday. All seven of Augsburg's victories, including the last three games, have come by shutout, and Augsburg currently has a 341:12 shutout streak over its last four games.

Augsburg is the lone Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school in this week's NSCAA national poll and the highest ranked of the three MIAC schools in the North Region poll; Macalester is now ranked No. 5 and Carleton is ranked No. 9.

Augsburg is in the "Others Receiving Votes" category in the latest D3Soccer.com Top 25 national poll, released on Sunday.

Now 7-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in MIAC play, the Auggies have a home contest against St. Olaf on Wednesday (9/29) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
