Katie Ahlstrom (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 73-60 win over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Carleton College on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
Ahlstrom connected on an impressive 7-of-9 from the field, including 6-for-7 from three-point range, while added four rebounds and three assists for Augsburg (5-13 overall, 4-11 MIAC).
Brittany Zins (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) continues to improve for Augsburg, recording her first double-double in an Auggie uniform, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Lexi Thompson (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and
Nikki Borkhuis (JR, Watertown, S.D./Watertown HS) also finished in double figures for Augsburg with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Carleton (4-13 overall, 3-11 MIAC) was led by Ally Weaver, who finished the game with 21 points and four assists, scoring her 1,000th career point in the contest, becoming the 11th player in Carleton program history to reach that milestone.
The Knights started the game with a 15-2 run over the opening five minutes. Augsburg slowly chipped away at the Carleton lead, claiming a 27-26 advantage off a pair of free throws by Zins with just under two minutes in the first half. Augsburg started the second half with a 13-0 run and would stretch its lead to as many as 18 points. Carleton cut the Augsburg lead to nine, but couldn't get any closer as Augsburg claimed the 73-60 win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 41.0 percent (25-of-61) from the floor, while the Knights connected on 39.2 percent (20-of-51) of their shots. The Auggies outrebounded Carleton 44-32 and outscored the Knights 19-8 in points off turnovers.
Augsburg and Carleton both return to action on Monday (1/31) with Augsburg traveling to Hamline and Carleton traveling to St. Catherine.
