Auggies fall to Lindenwood

MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring four goals in the third period, including two goals in a 13-second span in the opening minute, club powerhouse Lindenwood University (Mo.) claimed a 4-0 win over host Augsburg College in an exhibition women's hockey game on Sunday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

The game was an exhibition contest for Augsburg, and will not count for either standings or statistics for the Auggies. Lindenwood (19-1-1 overall) is winners of club hockey (ACHA) national titles in four of the last five seasons, including the last three years in a row, and is currently the No. 1 ranked club squad nationally.

Kelsey Talbot (FY, Calgary, Alberta) and Brett Lobreau (SO, Drydon, Ontario) had a goal and assist each for the Lions, with Krystal Martin (GR, Kamloops, British Columbia) and Ashley Rebeck (SR, St. Andrews, Manitoba) also scoring.

Grace Edgar (SR, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) collected 25 saves in goal for Augsburg before being relieved by Alex Hall (FY, Burnsville, Minn.), who had four saves in the third period.

Erin Leyden (SR, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) had 11 shots on goal to lead the Auggies, while Jenna Knudtson (SR, Austin, Minn.) had six shots.

Lindenwood scored twice in the first 45 seconds of the third period to break a scoreless tie, and added goals at the 5:29 mark and 16:43 mark to clinch the victory.

After a bye next weekend, Augsburg will return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play the weekend of Jan. 21-22 with a series at Concordia-Moorhead.
