Auggies close fall at Twin Cities Classic

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. -- Zach Johnson (JR, Sartell, Minn.) shot a three-day total of 235, leading the Augsburg College men's golf team at the Gustavus Adolphus College Twin Cities Classic, held Saturday to Monday at three Twin Cities golf courses.

Johnson had rounds of 79, 74 and 82 in the 54-hole event to finish 40th overall, leading the Auggies to a 13th-place team finish in the 15-school, 19-team tournament. Augsburg finished with 959 strokes (321-306-332) as a team, with the second-round 306 tying a season-best single round for the team.

The tournament was held at three Twin Cities courses -- the Links at Northfork in Ramsey, Minn., on Saturday, the Elk River (Minn.) Country Club on Sunday and the Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn., on Monday.

Brian Deuel (SR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) finished in a tie for 47th overall in the 99-golfer event with a 238 (81-76-81) total. Drew Bahl (FY, Preston, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) and Justin Popp (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) tied for 62nd overall, each with career-best (54-hole) 243 totals. Terry Gibbons (SR, Westlake, Ohio) rounded out the Auggie varsity lineup with a 260 total.

Augsburg's junior varsity also competed, finishing 19th with a 1,057 total. Tucker Williams (SR, Roseville, Minn.) shot 253, Tim Herrmann (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.) shot 263, Ryan Lundeen (FY, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) shot 265 and Silas Alberty (FY, Eagan, Minn.) shot 276.

Augsburg finished the fall half of the 2011-12 season with a 317.8 team stroke average. Johnson led the Auggies in the fall half of the seaon with a 77.5 stroke average and .716 (399-158) win-loss percentage, while Deuel had a 78.8 stroke average and .650 (362-195) win-loss percentage.
