ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Augsburg College's
Micheale Tesema (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) recorded a 14th-place finish with a career-best time to earn all-conference honors at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Como Park Golf Course.
Tesema finished with a time of 26:05 over 8,000 meters to finish in 14th place. The result marks a career-best performance for Tesema, and marks the highest an Augsburg runner has finished at the conference meet since Brent Haglund finished ninth in 2009. A total of 222 runners competed in the 8,000-meter race, which was won by Ben Sathre of St. Thomas.
Joe Arnold (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished second for Augsburg, as he recorded a time of 27:13 to finish in 43rd place in the overall standings.
Brian Byrnes (JR, Marshall, Minn.) and
Luke Iverson (FY, Maple Grove, Minn.) finished third and fourth for Augsburg, recording times of 27:57 and 28:11 respectively. Iverson's time marks a personal best and is 22 seconds faster than his previous best, recorded earlier this season at the Eau Claire Open.
Dakota Darkstar (SO, Minneapolis/Southwest HS) rounded out the Augsburg top five, as he recorded a time of 28:19. Darkstar's time is 10 seconds faster than the time he posted at the MIAC championships last season.
Daniel Gerber (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) and
Austin Erickson (SR, Albany, Minn.) rounded out the Augsburg competitors, as the duo finished the race with times of 29:12 and 29:53, respectively.
The Auggies will move on to compete at the NCAA Division III Central Regional at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, on Nov. 12.
