COON RAPIDS, Minn. -- Zach Johnson (JR, Sartell, Minn.) finished in a 15th-place tie with a three-day total of 230, leading the Augsburg College men's golf team at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, held Saturday to Monday at Bunker Hills Golf Course.

Johnson had rounds of 78, 73 and 79 for his three-day total of 230, just two strokes off of his career-best 54-hole score of 228, set last season. He finished just two strokes shy of earning All-MIAC honors (top 10 finishers plus ties) at the event.

Teammate Brian Deuel (SR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) joined Johnson with three rounds in the 70s at the MIAC meet, finishing with a 234 (79-77-78) total to place in a tie for 27th overall. The 234 is Deuel's collegiate career-best for a 54-hole event.

As a team, Augsburg finished seventh at the 10-team meet with a three-day total of 952 (324-306-322), a one-place improvement from the team's finishes the last two seasons. The second-round 306 is Augsburg's best single round of the fall half of the 2011-12 season.

Terry Gibbons (SR, Westlake, Ohio) finished with a 247 (88-76-83) total to place 38th overall. The second-round 76 is Gibbons' collegiate career-best. Drew Bahl (FY, Preston, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) shot 249 (87-80-82) to place 41st, and Justin Popp (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) shot 252 (80-86-86) to tie for 42nd.

Augsburg closes the fall half of the 2011-12 season next weekend at the Gustavus Twin Cities Classic, held at three Twin Cities golf courses -- the Elk River Country Club in Elk River, Minn., on Saturday (10/8), the Links at Northfork at Ramsey, Minn., on Sunday (10/9), and the Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn., on Monday (10/10).
