Micha Sater (JR, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS) recorded a team-high 15 kills and
Colleen Ourada (SO, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) added 14 kills and six blocks, but the Augsburg College volleyball team dropped a four-set match (25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18) to Bethel University in the first round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs Tuesday night at the Robertson Center.
The Auggies conclude their season with a 16-12 overall record, posting their second consecutive 16-win season, and the fourth season in a row an Augsburg team has finished with 16-plus victories.
With the win, Bethel (22-8 overall) will move on to face St. Benedict in the semifinal round Thursday evening. The Blazers defeated Gustavus in four sets Tuesday night.
The Auggies rallied to tie the score at 22-22 late in the first set, before Bethel scored the final three points of the game to take the set. The Auggies jumped out to a lead early in the second set before Bethel ralllied late to earn a 25-22 win.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle early before Augsburg used a 6-2 scoring run to win 25-22. The Royals would jump out to an early lead again, however, in the fourth set, and would pull away late to win by a score of 25-18.
Sater, who finished the match with a team-high 15 kills, also recorded a .237 hitting percentage in the contest. The 15 kills marks the ninth time this season that Sater has recorded a double-digit kill total.
Ourada finished the match with 14 kills and a .231 hitting percentage, while also adding six blocks. Ourada finished the season ranked fifth in the conference with a 3.46 kill-per-set average.
Augsburg setter
Emily McCourt (SO, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 42 assists and 10 digs in the match, while defensive specialist
Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 28 digs in the contest. The match marks the ninth time this season that McCourt has recorded 40 or more assists in a match, while Berens' 28 digs mark her second-best performance of the sesason.
Jamila Lee (JR, Richfield, Minn.) recorded eight kills, while
Tabby Roh (FY, LaCrosse, Wis./Central) and
Nikolene Miller (JR, Tomahawk, Wis.) added six and five kills respectively. Roh also added a team-high nine blocks, while Lee recorded five.
The loss concludes the 2011 season for Augsburg, and marks the final match for Augsburg senior
