2011 MIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER AWARDS
MINNEAPOLIS -- Three Augsburg College women's soccer players earned honors from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for their play during the 2011 season, it was announced on Thursday.
Augsburg forward
Bri Clark (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) was named to the All-MIAC squad, while midfielder
Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors. Midfielder
Katie Jacobson (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo HS) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team. It was the first all-conference honor for each player.
Clark had the best year of her career in 2011, scoring a team-best 10 goals with two assists for 22 points, the sixth-most goals and 10th-most points in a single season in school history. She had a goal or assist in 10 of her 17 games played this season, and had four game-wnning goals to her credit. Her 10 goals were tied for third-most among MIAC players in overall statistics, her 22 points were fourth-most and her four game-winning goals were tied for second-most.
In her three seasons (42 games) as an Auggie, Clark now has 16 goals and three assists for 35 career points, including eight game-winning goals. Her 16 goals are tied for seventh-most in school history, while her 35 points are tied for 13th-most.
Dorale proved to be a strong contributor in the midfield, with four assists on the season. She assisted on game-winning goals twice this season -- in a 1-0 win over Bethel on Sept. 13 and in a 2-1 win over St. Olaf on Oct. 11. In her three seasons (54 games) as an Auggie, Dorale has two goals and nine assists for 13 career points, the nine assists putting her tied for 16th in school history in the category.
Jacobson was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Jacobson appeared in all 18 games this season, with five starts. She appeared in 28 games in her Auggie career. A biology major, Jacobson earned Academic All-MIAC honors in 2010.
Under 13th-year head coach
Mike Navarre, Augsburg finished 2011 season at 9-8-1 overall, 6-4-1 in MIAC play. Augsburg has recorded eight or more victories in women's soccer in eight of the last 10 seasons. Augsburg finished in fifth place in the MIAC standings, the sixth time in the last eight seasons that Augsburg has finished in the top five in the MIAC standings.
