Erica Berthold (JR, Issaquah, Wash.) scored two goals, leading the Augsburg College women's hockey team claimed a 3-1 victory over St. Catherine University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday evening at Ridder Arena.
St. Catherine (2-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 MIAC) outshot Augsburg (2-0-1 overall, 1-0-0 MIAC) by a 45-14 margin, but Augsburg goalie
Brianna Schulz (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.), in just her second collegiate start, collected 44 saves to earn the victory.
After a scoreless first two periods, Berthold scored twice in the third period for the Auggies (2-0-1 overall, 1-0-0 MIAC) -- on a goal from
Casey Miller (FY, Bemidji, Minn.) and
Jessica Larkin (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) at the 4:51 mark, and on a goal from Miller at the 13:29 mark. The two-goal effort was Berthold's first multi-goal game of her collegiate career.
Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 7:55 mark of the third period for the Auggies, assisted by
Emerson Ball (SO, Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS).
Megan Killmer scored for St. Catherine (2-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 MIAC) at the 12:54 mark of the third period, assisted by Kasey Evans. Haley Morningstar had 11 saves in goal for St. Catherine.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (11/12) at 5 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
