Auggie men 17th at Central Regional

MEET RESULTS

WAVERLY, Iowa -- Micheale Tesema (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) recorded a 26th-place finish to earn All-Region honors, as his Augsburg College men's cross country team recorded a 17th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Central Regional on Saturday afternoon at Wartburg College's Max Cross Country Course.

Tesema, who recorded a time of 26:08, finished just seconds off breaking his personal-best time in a 8,000-meter race. An All-MIAC selection in 2011, Tesema has led Augsburg across the finish line in all but one of the team's seven races this season. All-Region honors are given to the top 35 finishers at the regional.

Joe Arnold (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Brian Byrnes (JR, Marshall, Minn.) finished second and third for Augsburg, as the duo recorded finishes of 63rd and 82nd places, respectively. Arnold, who finished with a time of 26:54, improved his performance by more than 40 seconds compared to his regional finish last season, while Byrnes' time marks a season-best performance.

Dakota Darkstar (SO, Minneapolis/Southwest HS) and Luke Iverson (FY, Maple Grove, Minn.) rounded out the Augsburg top five, as the duo recorded times of 28:20 and 28:54, respectively. Other Augsburg competitors included Daniel Gerber (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) and Austin Erickson (SR, Albany, Minn.). Gerber recorded a time of 29:03, while Erickson finished the race in 29:26.

A total of 180 runners and 26 teams competed at the regional. The regional marks the final meet of the season for the Augsburg men's cross country team. The Auggies will return a number of key runners in 2012, and will look to continue their climb up the conference and regional standings.
