Hlavac leads Auggies at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Kelsey Hlavac (SO, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) led the Augsburg College swimming team with a eighth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle as the Auggies competed in the Macalester College Roger Ahlman Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Riley Pool/Leonard Natatorium.

Hlavac recorded a time of 6:09.20 in the 500 free and also claimed a 13th-place finish in the in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:36.62 -- one of the fastest times in school history in that event. She also posted a 19th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and was member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team with Kayla Mitchell  (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Insight School of Minnesota), Abby Novak (JR, Aurora, Minn. / Mesabi East HS) and Elizabeth Hilgendorf  (FY, Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk HS), which finished seventh in a time of 4:20.03.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Elianna Bier (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS), Samantha Hebzynski  (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), Maggie Royce (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) and Bre Kirch (FY, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) teammed up for a seventh-place finish with a time of 2:15.93.

Hebzynski also competed in three events individually, posting a pair of 11th-place finishes. She recorded a time of 6:26.54 in the 500-yard freestyle, 2:44.70 in the 200-yard IM and finished 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:16.10 clocking.

There were six Auggies who competed in the 100-yard back, with Novak leading the way touching the wall in 1:13.93. She was closely followed by Hlavac (1:14.56), Bier (1:14.74), Mitchell (1:15.71), Hebzynski (1:16.10) and Carmen Lovato (SO, Oakland, Calif./Bayhill HS) (1:29.38).

Other top finishers included: Mitchell finishing sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:55.75), Hilgendorf finishing 10th in the 100-yard breastroke (1:24.39) and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.32), Royce finishing 13th in the 400-yard IM (5:42.02), Bier finishing 13th in the 500-yard freestyle (6:45.37), Novak finishing 17th in the 200 yard backstroke (2:46.48) and Kirsh finishing fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (14:53.71).

The Auggies return to action on Friday-Saturday (12/2-3), as they travel to St. Paul to take part in the University of St. Thomas Invitational. Friday's action begins at 6 p.m. while competition begins on Saturday at 1 p.m.
