ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Maggie Royce (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) claimed strong efforts in two distance events, leading the Augsburg College women's swimming team to a third-place finish at the Hamline University Invitational on Saturday.
Royce finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:43.51, while placing 11th in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:12.62.
Elizabeth Hilgendorf (FY, Tomahawk, Wis.) also had two impressive efforts for the Auggies, swimming a conference-meet-qualifying time in finishing 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (27.82 seconds), while taking almost nine seconds off her previous best time in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.37), placing 12th.
Augsburg's relays also performed well. The 200-yard medley relay of
Kelsey Hlavac (SO, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS),
Samantha Hebzynski (SO, Maple Grove, Minn.), Royce and Hilgendorf placed third in 2:11.02, and the 200-yard freestyle relay of Royce, Novak, Hilgendorf and Hlavac placed third in 1:55.03.
As a team, Augsburg placed third in the four-team meet with 298.5 points. A total of 10 Auggies competed at the meet.
Hlavac placed third for the Auggies in the 1,000-yard freestyle (13:12.98) and 12th in the 500-yard freestyle (6:16.08). Hebzynski placed 13th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:43.47) and 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.17).
Kayla Mitchell (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Insight School of Minnesota HS) placed eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.44) and 11th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:26.45).
Elianna Bier (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.97) and 12th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:28.19).
Bre Kirch (FY, Waunakee, Wis.),
Abby Novak (JR, Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East HS),
Carmen Lovato (SO, Oakland, Calif./Bayhill HS) and
Dustina Granlund (SO, St. Paul, Minn.) also competed for the Auggies in the meet.
Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (11/8) at 4 p.m. at the Ted Mullin Hour of Power fundraiser at Macalester.
