RESULTS
ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Kelsey Hlavac (SO, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) led the Augsburg College swimming team with an 11th-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle as the Auggies competed in the University of St. Thomas Invitational on Friday-Saturday at the St. Thomas Aquatic Center. As a team, Augsburg finished in sixth place with 119 team points.
Hlavac's time of 21:24.75 in the 1,650 freestyle is good for the 10th-fastest time in school history. Hlavac also recorded a 17th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (6:07.65) and a 21st-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:39.78).
Maggie Royce (FY, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) also registered a top-10 performance in school history with her time in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a 5:54.62 clocking, good for a 12th-place finish. Royce also finished 12th in the 400-yard IM (5:36.38) and 18th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:14.15).
Augburg's 800-yard freestyle relay also turned in one of the top times in school history as
Abby Novak (JR, Aurora, Minn./ Mesabi East HS),
Elizabeth Hilgendorf (FY, Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk HS),
Samantha Hebzynski (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) and Royce teamed up to record a 12th-place finish with a 9:24.32 clocking. The 400-yard freestyle relay of Royce, Novak, Hilgendorf and Hlavac posted a time of 4:12.42, good for a 13th-place finish.
Elianna Bier (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS), Hilgendorf,
Kayla Mitchell (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Insight School of Minnesota) and Novak teamed up in the 400-yard Medley Relay to record a 16th-place finish (4:52.12), while Bier, Hebzynski, Hilgendorf and
Carmen Lovato (SO, Oakland, Calif./Bayhill HS) joined forces in the 200-yard Medley to record a time of 2:16.28.
Other top finishers for Augsburg included: Mitchell finishing ninth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:49.06); Bier finishing 20th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:37.99);
Bre Kirch (FY, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) finishing 14th in the 1,650-freestyle (25:10.46); Hebzyski finishing 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.25) and 18th in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:02.79); Hilgendorf finishing 16th in the 50-yard freestyle (27.61) and 19th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.14).
The Auggies are now off until Jan. 7 when they travel to Mesa, Ariz. for the Citrus Classic.
