MIAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College guard
Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Levine has been a key part of Augsburg's 3-0 start, including two victories over teams picked in the top four of the MIAC's preseason coaches poll -- a 61-50 win over St. Benedict (third) last Wednesday and a 62-41 win over Concordia-Moorhead (fourth) on Saturday. Augsburg was picked to finish 12th in the coaches poll.
In
Augsburg's win at St. Benedict -- breaking a 50-game, 25-season losing streak to the Blazers -- Levine had 17 points, four rebounds and six steals. In the
Auggies' win over Concordia, Levine fell one assist shy of a triple-double, with 12 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and five steals.
On the season, Levine ranks first in the
conference's overall statistics in steals per-game (4.67), second in assists per-game (5.00), third in rebounds per-game (9.0) and 11th in scoring per-game (13.0 ppg), one of only two players (Concordia's Emily Theising is the other) to rank in the top 15 in the conference in those four per-game categories.
A four-year starter for the Auggies, Levine has earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors twice (2010-11, 2008-09) and was an MIAC All-First Year Team selection in 2008-09.
Augsburg travels to face Bethel in MIAC play on Monday (12/5) at 7:30 p.m., and hosts Gustavus on Wednesday (12/7) at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
