D3HOOPS.COM TEAM OF THE WEEK (WEEK 3)
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College basketball players
Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and
Cory Polta (SR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.) were named to the
D3hoops.com Team of the Week presented by Scoutware, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Team of the Week is awarded by
D3hoops.com, a national website that covers NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball. Two guards, two forwards and a center are selected each week in men's and women's basketball for the weekly honor.
Both Levine and Polta were also named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.
A guard, Levine earned her honor with outstanding performances in two Augsburg wins over teams that were in the MIAC postseason playoffs last year -- a
61-50 win over St. Benedict last Wednesday and a
62-41 win over Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday. In Augsburg's win at St. Benedict -- breaking a 50-game, 25-season losing streak to the Blazers -- Levine had 17 points, four rebounds and six steals. In the Auggies' win over Concordia, Levine fell one assist shy of a triple-double, with 12 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and five steals.
Levine has been a key factor in Augsburg's 3-1 start to the season, averaging 13.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.0 steals per-game.
Among MIAC players (overall statistics), Levine leads the conference's per-game averages in steals, while ranking sixth in scoring, seventh in rebounding and third in assists -- the only player in the MIAC to rank in the top 10 in those four per-game categories.
Polta has been a key member of a veteran frontcourt that has given the Auggies a 5-0 start to the 2011-12 season. He's averaging a team-high 15.4 points per-game, while adding 7.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.6 blocked shots per-game.
Among MIAC players (overall statistics), Polta ranks seventh in scoring, seventh in rebounding and second in blocked shots per-game, while his .627 field-goal percentage (32-of-51) is third-best.
Both Augsburg teams are in action on Wednesday (12/7) at 7:30 p.m., facing Gustavus. The Auggie women host the Gusties at Si Melby Hall, while the Auggie men play at Gustavus. On Saturday (12/10), the Auggie men host Central (Iowa) at 3 p.m. at Si Melby Hall, while the Auggie women play at St. Olaf at 3 p.m.
