Auggies set several personal-bests

RESULTS

MINNEAPOLIS -- It was a weekend for personal-bests for Augsburg College women's swimmers at the Minnesota Challenge on Friday and Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, competing against Divisions I, II and III teams from throughout the Midwest.

Kelsey Hlavac (FY, Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) turned in two of the top distance times in school history at the meet, setting personal bests in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:50.38) and 1,650-yard freestyle (20:05.06). Her 500-yard freestyle time is the second-fastest in school history, while her 1,650-yard freestyle time is the third-fastest. Hlavac took 33 seconds off her previous personal-best in the 1,650, while taking 15 seconds off her previous best in the 500. Hlavac also set a personal-best in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.87).

Samantha Hebzynski (FY, Maple Grove, Minn.) claimed a personal-best time in all five of her events -- the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.24), 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.76), 200-yard breaststroke (2:56.49), 200-yard backstroke (2:33.92) and 500-yard freestyle (6:07.02). Her 100-yard backstroke was nearly a three-second improvement, her 100-yard breaststroke time was a four-second improvement, her 200-yard backstroke time was a seven-second improvement, her 200-yard breaststroke time was a five-second improvement and her 500-yard freestyle was an improvement by 15 seconds.

Carmen Lovato (FY, Oakland, Calif./Bayhill HS) claimed personal-best times in the 100-yard freestyle (1:15.69) and 50-yard freestyle (32.69). Denyalle Lawrence (SR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) claimed season-best times in the 50-yard freestyle (30.19) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:56.76), and Katie Neff (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) scored a season-best time in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.75).

Augsburg returns to action with the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, to be held at the Minnesota Aquatic Center Feb. 17-19.
